Cruise Flight Baggage: Compare the Whole-Party Ticket Cost

Compare the final Florida cruise-flight price for the same travelers, bags, seats and fare conditions in both directions.

By ViaMetr Editorial Team Published October 13, 2026 Updated October 13, 2026

A backpack and two wheeled suitcases. Generic examples, not verified airline size allowances.

Compare Florida cruise flights using the final price for the same people, the same luggage and the seats you actually want, in both directions. A low fare is only one input. Do not call one airline cheaper until the other quote covers an equivalent packing and seating plan.

The worksheet below helps you collect those inputs. It does not estimate airfare, forecast bag fees or replace an airline checkout. Our official-source sample uses JetBlue and Frontier to show why a fare name alone cannot tell you what is included; it is not a ranking or a claim that either serves your dates.

Start with the bags you will actually bring

Make a short inventory before opening another flight search. For each traveler, record the personal item, overhead bag and checked suitcase they plan to bring. Measure the packed bags with their handles and wheels, weigh them, and list a stroller, child restraint or mobility device separately.

Keep the inventory unchanged while comparing. If you decide to share a suitcase or pack less, that is a new scenario. Apply the revised plan to every option rather than quietly giving one fare a lighter luggage load.

Write down who will check each shared suitcase. Ask the carrier how any entitlement applies to that traveler and the other people in the reservation. Do not spread an individual benefit across your group without confirming its rules.

What the official sample shows

These are policy examples checked October 13, 2026, not price quotes. The JetBlue row concerns a new US domestic Main Base booking without a separately verified benefit. Its page directs bookings made July 29, 2026 or earlier to previous fare rules. International routes, eligible status or card benefits can change the answer.

Fare or purchase structure Cabin-bag starting point Checked bags Seating check
JetBlue Main Base Carry-on and personal item included No checked bag included in the domestic fare sample Seat selection costs extra; without it, seats are assigned before departure
Frontier ticket without a bag bundle Personal item included; price any needed overhead bag Price the suitcases you need Get the selected seats into the actual quote
Frontier Economy bundle Personal item and carry-on included Price checked bags separately unless another confirmed benefit applies The bundle FAQ lists a standard seat
Frontier Business bundle Personal item and carry-on included Bundle lists two checked bags, up to 50 lb each The FAQ lists an UpFront Plus seat; check the bookable selection

Do not translate “Basic Economy” into “no carry-on” across every airline. Nor should you translate “bundle” into “all the bags we need.” Compare the named product’s contents with your inventory.

A suitcase can fit one allowance but not another

Frontier’s bag page lists a standard checked-bag limit of 40 lb and 62 linear inches, while noting higher limits for certain bundles or status; its Business bundle specifies 50 lb. Even two purchase options on the same airline can therefore require different weight checks.

Use those differences as a reason to check your actual packed weight, not as a reason to assume you will owe a surcharge. Look up the applicable limit for each fare and each bag. If the bag falls outside it, obtain the actual additional charge or repack before comparing totals.

Likewise, check both size and purchase inclusion for a cabin bag. A bag fitting the airline’s sizer does not prove that your selected fare pays for it.

Seats are part of the comparison, but not every traveler needs paid selection

Decide what you want before pricing: free assignment if available, a particular standard seat, or a more specific arrangement. Price the same requirement on every option.

JetBlue’s Main Base FAQ says seat selection carries a fee and that seats are assigned before departure if you do not select them. For travelers wanting to sit together, it recommends a fare with free advance selection, such as Main or Main Flex. Confirm the relevant family seating policy rather than treating a general fare comparison as your family’s seating confirmation.

If you are comfortable with assignment and the fare permits it, record that choice. If you want particular seats, keep their quoted cost. Neither choice should disappear simply because an airfare search makes one option look attractive.

For a Florida cruise with children, also use our airport-to-cruise family transfer checklist. Airline seat selection does not arrange the child restraint or vehicle on the ground.

Collect two quotes at the same level of detail

For each candidate, enter the whole party, exact travel dates and both flight directions. Record the operating airline, fare or bundle name, airport and flight times before adding bags and seats.

Go far enough to see a reviewable total without completing payment. Capture the itemized breakdown and the date and time you checked it. If a bag charge will only appear later, record it as unresolved rather than treating it as zero.

Frontier says bag prices depend on travel dates and when you buy them, and directs travelers to its Bag Price Checker. Use the quote applicable to your booking, not a remembered fee from another trip. Verify whether each charge covers one direction, one bag or a wider package before copying it into the worksheet.

If an option changes airports, keep its airfare comparison but label the difference. Add the appropriate ground journey before choosing a winner: MIA to PortMiami, FLL to Port Everglades, or MCO to Port Canaveral.

Whole-party quote worksheet

Copy this table for two candidates. Blank fields are for your actual quotes, not missing editorial estimates.

Quote field Option A Option B
Quote timestamp and currency __ __
Same travelers; child ages if relevant __ __
Airports, dates, flights and operating carriers __ __
Exact fare or bundle, outbound / return __ __
Whole-party ticket total, including displayed taxes __ __
Personal items: quantity and applicable limits __ __
Overhead bags: quantity, inclusion and extra cost __ __
Checked bags by traveler, direction, size and weight __ __
Checked-bag cost not already in ticket/bundle total __ __
Confirmed status/card benefit and who it covers __ __
Selected seats, or chosen free-assignment policy __ __
Seat cost not already included __ __
Selected optional extras and seller charges __ __
Unresolved fees or booking conditions __ __
Final comparable flight total __ __

Avoid double counting. If the displayed total already contains the bundle, do not add its price again. Keep included items labeled “included,” a verified no-charge choice labeled “$0,” and an unanswered price labeled “unknown.” Those are three different states.

Finish the purchase decision outside the baggage table

Move the completed flight totals into the true trip cost calculator with the hotel and ground rides. This worksheet prepares its inputs; it does not recreate that tool.

Then test the schedule separately. Use the day-before arrival comparison for the outbound plan and the post-cruise flight guide for the return. A cheaper, fully itemized ticket can still be wrong for your cruise timeline.

This method is not enough on its own for special equipment, international baggage rules or mixed-carrier itineraries. Obtain the relevant carrier confirmation in those cases. If two quotes still cover different bags, seat requirements or travelers—or leave a needed fee unknown—you have not yet established which is cheaper.
